San Diego Things to Do
San Diego is the second largest city in California, after Los Angeles, and lies just north of the Mexican border. Tourism is at a healthy high in the city, with lots to see and do. Here we´ll give you a run down of some of our favorite places to visit and activities to partake in.
First of all, a must-do activity is to head to one of San Diego´s many amazing beaches. La Jolla Shores is approximately one mile of sandy beach, with a wonderful long pier and the honored title of ´the best beach in the area´ by Orange County Register. Also in La Jolla is the Windansea Beach which is named after a hotel by the ocean which unfortunately burnt down in the 1940´s. People love to visit this beach for its excellent surf waves and also for its palm covered shack which was built in 1946 and still stands today, having been designated as a historical landmark in 1998.
Next up is the wonderfully fun SeaWorld San Diego where you can watch ´Spirit´, an amazing killer whale show, get close enough to touch a dolphin´s fin, and watch sharks, from a safe distance. There are also amazing rides, both for adults and children, such as the Shipwreck Rapids, Bayside Skyride, Sky Tower, and Journey to Atlantis. In the summer you can catch a showing of Cirque de la Mer, which features acrobats, music and interesting creatures.
The port of San Diego is the fastest growing cruise port on the west coast, and from here you can take a boat to the Mexican Riviera, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal. Even if you are not planning to taking a cruise from the port, you should visit it to soak up the hustle and bustle and enjoy watching the beautiful waves lap against the shore.
For a more culturally rich day, you can head to one of the many museums to be found in San Diego. The Maritime Museum of San Diego is a great way to end your day spent at the port, the Mingei International Museum offers exhibitions from art of cultures all over the world, and the San Diego Natural History Museum will take you back in time with its award winning exhibitions, programs and films.
This is, of course, a mere taster of the fun, interesting and exhilarating things which you can get up to in San Diego.
