Sacramento

Sacrament is the capital city of the State of California, the state with the world's 7th largest economy. It is the seventh most populated city in California. In 1848, with the discovery of gold thirty miles east, Sacramento became a major distribution point, a terminus for wagon trains,  riverboats, the Pony Express, and the first transcontinental railway.

The population of Sacramento is approximated at 460,000 in the city and nearly 2 million in the metropolitan area, which consists of Sacramento and parts of Yolo, Placer and El Dorado, Sutter and Yuba counties. It is a strikingly diverse city with a mix of Caucasian, Hispanic, African-American, Asian and Pacific Islander cultures.

Being the capital of the State of California, the Californian Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger is regularly seen walking around the city. Many other well known figures have had or still have connections with Sacramento, including; Tom Hanks, Sam Elliot, Molly Ringwald, Mark Twain and Ronald Reagan.

In 1854, Sacramento was officially named the capital city of California. It has on offer twenty six public libraries, ten hospitals, sixteen regional park districts and fifteen major art and historical museums. Add to these amenities a Mediterranean climate, it’s location on the convergence of the “Sacramento river”, which is the longest river in the State of California, and the “American river”, on which was the site of Sutter’s Mill, said to be where the Californian Gold Rush began.

The city accommodates two professional basketball teams, the Sacramento Kings (NBA), and the Sacramento Monarchs (WNBA). Moreover, Sacramento has a minor league baseball team called the Sacramento River Cats (affiliate of the Oakland Athletics).

Annually, the city hosts many not-to-be-missed events, including; the California State Fair, the Festival de la Familia, the California International Marathon, the Waterfront Festival, the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, the Pacific Rim Street Festival, and the New Year's Eve Sky Concert.

Also very much worth visiting in Sacramento are the California State Railroad Museum, Fairytale town, Sacramento Zoo and the California Military Museum.
