Long Beach Things to Do

Long Beach, found in Los Angeles County in California, is the fifth largest city in the state and the host to one of the world´s largest shipping port. From Los Angeles city center, to get to Long Beach you will need to head south for just 20 miles, and soon you´ll arrive at one of the most fun and interesting cities in California.Once you get here, you certainly won´t be stuck for things to do, but here we will give you some of our suggestions as to what you should definitely take in on your trip to Long Beach.

In the Aquarium of the Pacific, on the aptly named Aquarium Street, you can learn about and see more than 500 aquatic species. The exhibitions hosted by the aquarium are all focused on the Pacific Ocean; the Southern California and Baja Region, Northern Pacific and Tropical Pacific. Here is one of only two places which successfully breed the lovely ´Weedy Sea Dragon´ which is a creature related to the sea horse. Naturally, favorites of everyone can be seen in the aquarium such as sharks, seals, rays and dolphins.

Visiting Catalina Island from Long Beach is easy and another ´must-do´ for visitors. Going to the island, which covers just 22 miles in length and 8 miles in width, is a really great and unique way to pass a day or two. You can visit the dance hall, known as the Casino, which was built in 1929 and which was once the tallest building in Los Angeles County. After that, or before, you can explore the island, taking in the many species of flora and fauna which are unique to the island.

The RMS Queen Mary is a huge ocean liner, twice the size of the Titanic, which was once the fastest of its kind, between the years of 1936 and 1952. It is now permanently docked at Long Beach where tourists can hop on board and take part in the ´Behind the Scenes´ tour of the ship, enjoy the elaborate decoration and possibly enjoy the ´Ghosts and Legends´ show...if you´re brave enough.

These are just a few examples of the fun things which you can do in Long Beach. Of course, anything and everything is available in this large city, from shopping to fine dining, and from sun bathing to water sports, there´s really something for everybody in the city.
