Beverly Hills

We’ve all heard of the TV program, Beverly Hills 90210, which is probably one of the main sources of fame of this wealthy area of Los Angeles. But there is more to know about Beverly Hills than the lives of Brendan, Brenda, Kelly and Co., and so, here is some information which you may not know about the famous and infamous area.

Beverly Hills is found in the Northern part of Los Angeles. Together with Bel Air and Holmby Hills, it forms what is called the Platinum Triangle, an extremely wealthy part of town. Beverly Hills is where some of the largest homes in the state, and indeed the entire country, can be found, and is also where famous celebrities reside, alongside ‘normal’ families, such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, the Beckham family, Madonna and Tom Cruise. With an average house price of $2.2 million, Beverly Hills is considered the most expensive place in America in regards to purchasing a home.

The numbers in the TV show, 90210, refer to one of the area’s postcodes. Those numbers are now very famous because of the sitcom and also because of its many celebrity residents. The area’s two other zip codes are 90211 and 90212. However, somehow, the numbers 90210 got chosen for the title of the show, and therefore got all the fame. The image of Beverly Hills got all the more enhanced and publicized by other television and film productions, such as The Jack Benny Program (1950 to 1954), The Beverly Hillbillies (1962 to 1971) and the Beverly Hills Cop movies.

Surrounded by the city of Los Angeles, the area was named after Beverly Farms, Massachusetts by the Rodeo Land and Water Company. Some of its well known landmarks or names include; Rodeo Drive, known as one of the most expensive shopping districts in the world; Greystone Mansion, who’s house and grounds are used regularly in film and TV; Walden Drive, one of the most attractive streets in California which also features in films such as Beverly Hills Cop II; and the Beverly Hills Hotel where many famous names have stayed, such as John F. Kennedy, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, Robin Williams and Demi Moore.

If you can afford to stay in Beverly Hills for a few days, you’ll have an unreal experience. If a hotel is out of your reach, then at least take a walk down Rodeo Drive and do some celebrity spotting.
